In 2024, The Perception Foundation’s founders, Maya and Lara Hammoud, conducted pioneering research that identified a novel genetic diagnosis for neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) and a potential therapeutic approach. Their work was first recognized at the state level, earning Best in Michigan, and later received First Place at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Additionally, they were named two of the 10 Global Leaders in Research, an incredible achievement highlighting the worldwide significance of their findings.
Building on this success, in 2025, Maya and Lara expanded their research to explore how the spectrum of NDDs arises and tested their treatment for its potential to be delivered across various points of brain development. Their continued innovation and rigorous methodology led to remarkable results, earning them a spot in the Top 5 Projects in the World at Regeneron ISEF and another prestigious Third Place Grand Award globally.
These consecutive achievements underscore the founders’ commitment to advancing scientific understanding of NDDs, developing therapies with real-world impact, and inspiring the next generation of neurodiversity researchers and advocates.
